Frequently asked questions
Before your appointment
Tell your practitioner about injuries, medicines, pregnancy, recent surgery and medical conditions so care can be adapted or postponed safely.
What is the difference between remedial and relaxation massage?
Remedial massage begins with assessment and targets specific muscular or movement concerns. Spa Lotus massage is primarily a relaxation and sensory experience, even when firmer pressure is selected.
Do I need a referral?
A referral is generally not required for a private remedial massage appointment. If your care is connected to an insurer, compensation claim or another provider, check their requirements first.
Can I claim through private health?
HICAPS is available for eligible clients. The rebate depends on your fund, policy and remaining limits, so contact your insurer if you need certainty before treatment.
Will remedial massage hurt?
Treatment should be tolerable and collaborative. Some techniques can feel firm or tender, but more pain does not automatically mean better treatment. Tell your practitioner how the pressure feels.
When should I postpone massage?
Fever, contagious illness, acute infection, open wounds, suspected clot, unexplained swelling, recent significant injury or other medical red flags may require postponement or medical review.
