Co2 Fractional Laser Treatment
Exclusive to Advanced Body Image & Spa Lotus, the Fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser is the latest in non-surgical skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatments. With the longest wavelength of all lasers on the market, the Co2 laser can be used safely on darker skin types with appropriate treatment parameters.
What does it do?
The Carbon Dioxide (Co2) Laser treatment precisely resurfaces damaged, lined or scarred skin, drastically reducing the appearance of lines, wrinkles, sun damage, pigmentation, scarring and in some cases, pre-cancerous lesions. This is done by removing deeper layers of damaged skin and stimulating the regeneration of healthy new skin underneath.
How does it do this?
It uses a CO2 laser beam and fractionates that beam into thousands of microscopic columns of light. These tiny columns of light penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin. The skin then repairs those tiny shafts by pushing out the old sun damaged skin and replacing it with new skin.
The Co2 laser treatment is excellent for treating:
- deep set wrinkles around the mouth, eyes and frown
- sun damage
- uneven texture and tone
- fine lines
- acne scars
- surgical or traumatic scars
- the delicate eyelid skin and also around the mouth
- also a very effective treatment for pre-cancerous growths.
How long do the effects of a fractional CO2 resurfacing laser treatment last?
Longevity of results will depend on how well you protect your skin from the sun and other external factors that cause aging, such as caring for your general health, smoking, weight fluctuations etc. If you apply sunscreen, appropriate skin care and wear wide brimmed hats, the results of your CO2 laser treatment will be evident for several years.
When can I expect to see results?
The fractional CO2 laser treatment is highly customised. Some treatments may be deeper, with more healing and downtime, while others may be slightly shallower, with less healing time. The deeper the treatment, the better the results generally. However, some patients may prefer to have two treatments that aren’t as deep in order to avoid a lot of downtime. Either way, amazing results are imminent.
You will see some immediate results, however the full results are visible at around the 3-6 month mark. After your skin heals, (typically between 5-14 days), there will be a period of at least 4 to 6 weeks post treatment, when your skin may be slightly pink. As the fibroblast cells form collagen that moves to the surface of the skin, the lines will start to diminish as the collagen plumps up the folds of wrinkles or lines.
How will I look immediately after treatment and what is the healing time?
You may experience some heat in your skin for approximately 120 minutes after your treatment, with most patients reporting the heat only lasting an hour or so. During the first 24 hours after treatment, your skin may feel as though it is sunburned.
Your skin will peel for 2-7 days and will be pink for 4 to 6 weeks. This healing all depends on how deep your treatment is. After a week or so, you can wear make-up to cover the pink if you wish. Bruising may develop, although very rare. This can take up to two weeks to resolve.
Are there any reasons I should not have this laser treatment?
Although the Co2 laser treatment is suited to a wide range of skins, there are a few instances in which treatment may not be suitable. This includes use of medications that increase photo-sensitivity, use of anticoagulants (some are fine), use of Accutane in the last year (vs. 6 months), chemotherapy, history of difficulty healing or scarring, compromised immune system, history of bleeding disorders, and pregnancy.
